What It’s Like to Create a High School Learning Plan as a Smart Schools Student

There are many online high school programs available, but not all provide a fast way to get a high school diploma. Sure, you can go for a GED, but they are not viewed the same as a diploma.

Smart Schools offers a flexible learning experience that works around the student’s schedule and not the other way around. Online Adult High School, Accredited Diploma Program

Two questions we often get asked at Smart Schools are: Is my previous schoolwork going to count towards my learning at Smart Schools? And, what am I required to learn?

Speed up your journey to graduation

To answer the first question, YES! There are some ways that you can speed up your learning at Smart Schools. We’ll help you avoid retaking classes and reduce your computer time.

For the second question, it depends on three things: what classes you have completed before; what subjects you test out of, and; what were the requirements of your cohort — that is the year you were originally set to graduate high school?

Transfer your transcript and keep previous credits

Don’t retake courses! When you enroll with Smart Schools, it is a good idea to transfer over any previous school credits you completed. This can help you reduce your tuition cost and graduate high school faster.

The registrar will review your official transcript and let you know how many transfer credits will apply toward your high school diploma. Your graduation date will be affected by the number of credits you can transfer and the speed at which you finish your classes.

Requirements Based On Your High School Year’s Grad Requirements

After you get onboarded, your Smart Schools Academic Advisor will work with you to put together a learning plan. Your learning plan will include the required classes from your original graduation year. For example, the requirements for the graduating class of 1996. They will also cut all the classes you already passed.

The learning plan you put together with your Academic Advisor will have the list of courses you will need to qualify for graduation. The courses will be unlocked, two at a time. It's designed so that students can focus on fewer classes at a time and finish them faster than a traditional class.

Test out of course content you already know

Yes, you can test out of completing courses that you are already familiar with! For example, if you already know the information that is presented in Algebra 1, you can avoid taking Algebra 1 by earning a qualifying score on the Algebra 1 assessment. When you do this, you will receive credit for that course. The test-out will record a “P" for "Pass" or the grade achieved on your test-out exam, on your transcript.

Overall, students who spend even a small amount of time regularly working toward classes in their learning plan will see progress. Everything at Smart Schools is designed with the student experience in mind.
